Comox Valley RCMP acknowledge efforts of MCSC

On September 26th 2009 the Missing Children’s Society of Canada hosted a Candlelight Walk for Missing Children in Burnaby. The event raised close to $45,000 for the Missing Children Society of Canada and will be used in their ongoing efforts to locate missing children across Canada. In support of this cause, the staff at the Comox Valley Detachment made a 500 dollar contribution to the Candlelight Walk.

The event was of particular interest to an ongoing local missing persons investigation dating back to 1993 when Lindsey Nicholls, then 13 years old, walked away from her temporary foster home on Royston Road. 17 years later, over 300 tips have been investigated and the police still have not determined what happened to Lindsey.

The file’s lead investigator, Sgt. Paul West appreciates the services offered by the Missing Children’s Society and is quick to acknowledge the considerable assistance the organization has provided over the course of the investigation. “High profile events like the Candlelight Walk held this past weekend serve to keep Lindsey’s case in the public eye. We continue to hope that the ongoing media attention to this troubling case will surface information that will help us find Lindsey and bring this case to a successful conclusion”. Gregg McMartin, an investigator with the Missing Children’s Society advises “the Candlelight Walk was a tremendous success, both financially and as an opportunity for parents of missing children to share their experiences, it was a very emotional event for all involved”.

Lindsey’s mother, Judy Peterson was one of the parents featured both before and during the Burnaby event. Media coverage of her ongoing search for her daughter has again resulted in several new pieces of information being forwarded to both the police as well as the Missing Children Society. Sgt West advises that each of these new tips will be reviewed and investigative actions will be pursued wherever possible. “It is this type of information from the public that we hope will give the investigation a new focus and allow us to determine what happened to Lindsey”.

Should you any information regarding the disappearance of Lindsey Nicholls please contact Sgt. Paul West at the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321, or Crimestoppers, or the Missing Children Society of Canada at www.mcsc.ca.
