Calgary Police Service and the Missing Children Society of Canada Seek Public Assistance for Theft Associated with Bottle Recycle Program

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) and the Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) are seeking public assistance following a number of thefts from bottle collection sites that are a critical to MCSC’s fundraising efforts.

MCSC operates a bottle pick-up program, formerly operated by Child Find Alberta, which directly benefits missing children and their searching families. A number of recyclable bottles and cans were stolen from collection bins owned by MCSC. The bins are located inside buildings throughout the city. The thefts were first reported to police in April 2015 but have been occurring since October 2014.

It is estimated that the total loss to the organization is approximately $13,500 to date.

“Our bottle recycle program generates funds that are so important to our ability to keep our doors open,” explains Amanda Pick, CEO of Missing Children Society of Canada.  “We are so thankful to the generosity of our program participants from across Calgary, and we hope that by putting out this call to Calgarians will help to stop this theft.”

MCSC notes that individuals who pick up the recyclables on behalf of the organization wear vests or t-shirts that are marked with ‘Missing Children Society of Canada Bottle Program’ as well as MCSC name tags. Businesses are encouraged to contact MCSC at [email protected] or 403-291-0705 if they suspect recyclables have been removed from their locations by individuals other than MCSC representatives, or if they would like to participate in the program.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
