Our Legacy

The Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) was founded in 1986 on the belief that families searching for a missing child should never search alone. Forty years later, that promise remains.

MCSC has evolved over the decades. Always pushing forward to embrace advances in communication and technology, the organization that started in Calgary with a modest team of investigators, has grown to become a trusted partner to police across Canada.

On Oct. 22, 2026, MCSC proudly marks the 40th anniversary in Calgary with an evening of celebration and we'd love to have you join us. There, we will honour the people who committed to searching for missing children, those who continue to make the critical work possible and everyone who believes in the safety of children and the support of their loved ones. And we will also raise money to help us move toward the future.

A lot has changed in 40 years. Images of missing children once featured on posters and milk cartons are now shared digitally to the public, through social media and on MCSC Rescu, a world-class web application, built through MCSC's partnership with tech giants Esri Canada and Microsoft and used by participating police services. It's through Rescu, anyone can quickly send MCSC police partners tips about a vulnerable child.



Success through Rescu, which is part of MCSC's Child Search Network, is proven. In one case, Calgary Police Service, which helped pioneer the Network, received tips that helped locate two high-risk teens within 24 and 48 hours of them being reported missing. In another case, a woman using the app in Lindsey Ont., recognized two teen boys that had been reported missing hundreds of kilometres away, from Sudbury. That's just two of many positive stories.

The Missing Children Society, continually supported by the Calgary Police Service, is also endorsed by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. The organization is partnering with the Ontario Provincial Police to extend use of Rescu across the province and in May 2026, the RCMP's National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains reaffirmed its formal partnership with MCSC.


Building the Future


MCSC isn't about to stop moving forward, however. Encouraged by its police partners, the organization is evolving to serve all vulnerable persons, children, youth and adults. At its core, The Missing Children Society of Canada wants to ensure everyone can live in a safe place.  

The technology is proven. The partnerships are strong. But we count on you to continue supporting MCSC in the work that has made us so proud and as we look to expanding our mission.  

Proceeds from the October event will help MCSC continue developing innovative programs that support:
  • Missing Child Case Support
  • Public Awareness and Prevention Initiatives
  • Community engagement and education
  • National partnerships with law enforcement and service providers
  • Expand the Search Program
